EXST7015 : Statistical Techniques II

Written Project

A written project is required for EXST7015. This report will consist of a typewritten report on a statistical analysis. The analysis will employ one or more of the techniques covered in the course. Students should work together in groups of 3 or 4 on the report, and each group will turn in a single report with the names in alphabetical order. Groups of 2 or 5 students by permission only.

I would like a preliminary proposal for the project by Tuesday, October 12. The proposal should include the names of the persons in the group, a description of the data set and its source, and the type of analysis that is to be done. The data set should be an original data set. Please give me enough information about what you intend to do so that I can provide suggestions for analytical procedures not yet covered in the course. I need to know variables are available in the dataset, particularly whether they are quantititative or qualitative. I may also modify a group by adding an individual who has not joinded a group by October 12th.

The final project is due in class on Tuesday, November 30 @ 1:42PM. No extensions will be granted (this is the last week of classes). The project accounts for 10% of the course grade. The report should be done in 4 to 7 pages (1.5 or double spaced), plus an appendix with the computer output for the statistical analysis.

• e) Method: scientific and statistical analysis

• g) Conclusions (f & g may be a single “Results and Conclusions” section)

• Computer code used to produce the results
• Sample of the raw data listing. A few pages of printed data is plenty; I do not need the ALL of the original dataset.

My evaluation will be based on the following considerations; (most important) appropriateness, correctness and completeness of the statistical analysis, (secondary consideration) organization of the material, conciseness and clarity. Ideally the report will be written in a particular journal style, even if the journal departs slightly from the sections above.
